Abstract

|
The authors report a case of ileocolic intussusception in an adult caused by a granuloma of the appendiceal stump. The patient underwent appendectomy one month prior to the onset of intussusception and he was readmitted because of intermittent crampy abdominal pain of days¢¥ duration. This entity seems to occur quite rarely. The medical literatures on the subject have been reviewed and the etiology of the disease has alos been briefly discussed. It is believed that swelling and inflammatory reaction caused by a foreign body at the site of an intramural stump can encroach on the cecal lumen sufficiently to be caught in normal peristalsis and lead to intussusception.
